Mobile Social Networking Can Save Lives

Given our recent experiences in Bucks County with an earthquake, Hurricane Irene, a police manhunt for a murderer on the loose, and flooding from excessive rains, it’s clear that we need to constantly be prepared for the unexpected. “Doylestown Connects with SoMeBizLife Mobile” features several sessions to help citizens and emergency responders learn how mobile social networking can be used to help save lives.

Among the emergency preparedness sessions being offered are:

  • Preparing to Communicate with Mobile Social Networks During Emergencies: Emergency services personnel and interested citizens will explore opportunities to create strategies and infrastructure now that can help them send and receive vital information with the public via mobile social networks in the event of emergencies.
  • Personal Safety Awareness for Mobile Social Users: Every person is responsible for his or her own safety at all times. When you’re out and about, what personal safetyissues should you consider?
  • Emergency Alerts for Mobile Social Users: When weather threatens, a child is missing or an emergency is occurring, mobile users can tap into text alerts and mobile social networks to get vital information and help others in the community. Preparing to Communicate with Mobile Social Networks will be offered Friday morning, September 23. The Personal Safety Awareness and Emergency Alert Sessions will be offered on both Friday and on Saturday, September 24 to accommodate the greatest possible number of participants. All of these sessions will be held at the Doylestown Fire House.

“Doylestown Connects” will be held in downtown Doylestown, September 23-25. The event will help participants discover, experience and enjoy the power of mobile social networking. The agenda offers multiple informal networking opportunities in addition to structured sessions. The program is flexible, allowing participants to attend whatever sessions work for their schedules. Registration by advance ticket is $19. All food and beverages are at attendees own expense. Some sessions, such as beer and wine tastings require an additional fee to venues.
